Wordpress Post Status and Visibility lets you control who can view your posts.
All About WordPress Post Status and Post Visibility
When you start a new post in WordPress, the WordPress post status is by default in Draft mode and Visibility is by default: Public.
WordPress Draft Status
Use the Draft mode while you are drafting your post. It is not visible to the public. You can use the “Preview” button to view your work in progress. This will open in a new window.
Setting Visibility to Private
When you set visibility to private, be aware that:
- it gets Published immediately! (The “Save Draft” button will disappear. Instead, you will see an “Update” button.)
- the status changes to “Privately Published”
- and it is not visible to the public. However, all users with authorised permissions (Editors and/or Administrators) will be able to see it and modify it when they are logged in.
Tip: Don’t set Visibility to Private unless you have specific reasons to do so.
How to Change WordPress Status back to Draft Status
If perchance, you did set the Visibility to Private, you will not see any option within the Post Edit page to change the Status back to Draft. You would be forgiven if you thought that it is no longer able to revert back to Draft. However it is still possible.
- Just click on the “All Post” in your admin left column.
- Uncheck “Private” checkbox.
- Change Status to Draft.
- Click the Update button.
(That’s all for now. I will add more details as they come to hand.)
