I have just been having problems with my WordPress contact form. Which led me to the puzzling query of which email address does the contact form submission go to?
In WordPress there are 2 main places where you specify your email address.
1) General Settings
It says that this email address is for “admin purposes”.
2) Your Profile Email Address
This one says that for Your Profile, an email address is required as contact info.
Now, these 2 email addresses do not have to be the same. In fact, mine is not.
But what are they for? When do they get used?
And when someone contacts you via your contact form (however you installed the contact form or via whichever of the many plugins), to which email address is that query sent to?
I guessed – and I was wrong.
Contact form queries are sent to Your Profile email address. (I would imagine that you would have the Administrator user role in WP).
You may think this is trivial information. But it does assume more importance if you have problems with your contact forms and you need to troubleshoot. And knowing this, it is best to make sure that Your Profile email address is correct and up-to-date.
My contact form problem was that it was not going to my email system.
I finally figured out that my POP server settings were incorrect. I have just migrated to another hosting provider and that was one of the many unexpected changes.
